Toxins at Home

toxins at homeYour home is your safe haven. A place to rest and recharge, a place where you feel happy. You go out of your way to make sure you don’t have any toxins at home.

Chances are, however, you may have missed the chemical toxins that end up in everything, from furniture cleaner to makeup. Dust, mold, gases, toxic chemical solutions, phthalates, pests – danger lurks everywhere. Worst yet, the danger can be completely odorless and colorless and you may not notice it until it’s too late.

What Do Toxins at Home Cause

One of the most striking numbers from the below infographic by EcoMom: “The average American reportedly uses 40 pounds of toxic cleaning products each year.” First, the number is shocking. Second, are you still surprised why so many people worldwide contract all sorts of diseases for no apparent reason?

The effects on humans fall under three categories: neurophysiological, behavioral, and reproductive:

Of course, these effects can be inter-related. Neurological changes can affect behavior; changes in behavior can affect reproduction, etc. You get the picture.

Furthermore, just because you rinsed them off your in-home surfaces doesn’t mean they’re not there. Why?

In fact, residues end up anywhere – like on that toy your youngest child keeps putting in his mouth. What is more, the chemicals that do end up in the water supply most likely harm soil, plants, and the ozone. So fish and invertebrates indicate the health of an aquatic system because chemicals can accumulate in invertebrates from the water and sediment and in fish from water, sediment, and the food chain.
